  • Data collection arrangements

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital (ROH) Research bank is set up to store samples including bone and soft tissue tumours and normal tissues/blood/bodily fluids. The samples are donated by living patients who have undergone a biopsy or surgical resection at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Informed consent will be taken by the consultant who is overseeing the patients’ hospital care or a member of the clinical team supporting the clinician. The consultant (or delegated member of the care team) will check that the donor is eligible before providing the potential donor with the information sheet and consent form.

  • Research programme

The hospital is a research and teaching hospital and both local and multicentre research is undertaken. The majority of research projects will be to improve health for musculoskeletal conditions; however patient tissue may be used in other areas of biomedicine. All research that is undertaken at the hospital is reviewed by the Trust’s access review panel, which is sub group of the research and development committee.
