Research summary
Cancer of the womb (uterine cancer) is the 4th most common cancer among women in the UK.
There have been recent advances in the treatment through the discovery of new drugs. These drugs can benefit patients by teaching the immune system to 'see' the cancer and treat it. This trial, called RODEO, funded by GSK, is designed so that we can test different drugs, this is called a platform trial. The 1st part of the RODEO trial will open in 14 NHS hospitals in the UK and test a drug called dostalimab.
Dostarlimab is a type of drug called immunotherapy. We are testing whether dostarlimab can shrink a patient’s cancer when it is given in the month before their surgery. Patients who have a new diagnosis of uterine cancer that can be operated on would normally wait 4-6 weeks for surgery. During this period patients would not receive any treatment as standard. Patients with high risk, stage 3-4 uterine cancer that could be operated on will be offered the opportunity to take part in the RODEO trial.
Patients will receive 2 doses of dostarlimab, 3 weeks apart. Pre- planned surgery will take place around 20 days after the last dose.
A CT scan will be done at the start of the trial, and an MRI scan will be done before surgery to see if the cancer has shrunk. After surgery, patients will be monitored at 6 monthly intervals with blood tests taken at these visits. Further CT scans will be needed every 6 months for the first 2 years and then a final scan at 3 years to check to see if the cancer has come back. Biopsies of the cancer and blood samples will be taken to look at the cancer cells in more detail.REC name
