  • Research summary

Upper limb impairment after stroke is a major cause of disability. Although there is evidence for therapy as a whole, what is not known is which intervention suits individual patients given the wide variety of stroke related problems and individual circumstances. This study seeks to bring greater understanding by comparing two interventions with existing evidence; modified constraint induced movement therapy (mCIMT) and robot assisted therapy (RAT). The study will compare responses in movement quality, function and daily use of the affected arm, along with the participant’s acceptability of the two interventions.
