Data collection arrangements
The Research Tissue Bank will hold a mix of existing biological material collected from patients as part of the routine clinical care pathway and samples collected specifically for future research. In either event, no samples will be collected nor subsequently stored in the Research Tissue Bank unless a patient provides their written informed consent and this is documented.
Samples to be collected are tumour tissue, blood, saliva and urine.
Patients have the option of providing only one or two prospective sample types (e.g. blood and saliva, but not urine) or declining to provide any prospective samples as long as they agree to donate their archival tumour tissue sample, as patients will be required to provide at least 1 sample type for the Research Tissue Bank.
Research programme
The RM Prostate Cancer Research Tissue Bank aims to facilitate prostate cancer research that contributes to an advancement in knowledge of the development, treatment and outcomes of prostate cancer, by obtaining and storing donor samples which can be used for future ethically approved research which has not yet been formulated into a specific project(s). One research area of particular interest at the time of writing this protocol is the discovery of biomarkers, molecular targets and profiles related to prognostic and predictive markers of disease but also disease progression and disease outcome.
