Research summary
The lifetime impact of psychological trauma on mental and physical health is well known, although current models of care are failing to meet needs. A new model of care, supported and financed by the Scottish Government will be tested for the very first time in the Rivers Centre for Traumatic Stress. The model joins up statutory health and social care with third sector services to deliver holistic trauma care across the lifespan. We are planning to submit an application for a robust evaluation of this model to NIHR but we need some additional information including a theoretical programme model and evidence of optimum impact/outcome/economics measures to refine our design and provide a robust case for funding. The current application describes qualitative methods which form part of the preparatory study. This will involve focus groups and interviews with centre patients and staff and Public Service Partnership stakeholder groups.
