Research summary
In the context of mental health, although significant resources have been invested in helping mental health service users return to work, to date we know very little about what enables individuals to feel ready to return to work. Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine what helps and prevents people from returning to work. We will do this by conducting a one-off interview with employment advisors and service users who are actively receiving input from the Talking Therapies services in South London and Maudsley between 8th January 2025 and 30th December 2025. The study will help with contextualising service users needs, which could be used to inform existing and novel interventions, aiming to aid return to work for people experiencing common mental disorder symptoms. The study is funded by King’s College London.
