Data collection arrangements
This is a basic science study, which involves collecting samples from subjects with respiratory diseases and illnesses and relevant control subjects. Subjects will be characterised on the basis of their lung function, the results of a physical examination and medical history, in accordance with internationally accepted criteria or the scientific requirements of the study. Healthy control subjects will be recruited to enable comparative studies to be carried out. Written informed consent will be taken from subjects prior to any data being collected or samples taken. \n\nSamples of blood, sputum, bronchial cells, biopsies, nasal washes and swabs may be collected to help with respiratory research. Cells and biopsies may be cultured in the laboratories to enable comparison of responses to disease relevant stimuli outside the body. The samples collected will be stored under a Human Tissue Authority (HTA) license. \n
Research programme
Synairgen aims to build a resource of samples that can be used to support respiratory research within the commercial and non-commercial sector. The data generated from the samples is intended to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases and illnesses, in particular viral induced episodes in asthmatic and COPD patients. \n\nSynairgen Research Ltd does not intend to sell samples to third parties. The intended purpose of sharing samples will be to support company initiatives and to explore new avenues for potential respiratory drug treatments and diagnostic developments. Samples will be shared with commercial and non-commercial entities working collaboratively with Synairgen Research Ltd within the respiratory field. Samples will be shared with academic institutes to support academic research. \n
