Research summary
This study aims to investigate how resilience is experienced by primary caregivers caring for a family member they live with who has a diagnosis of a learning disability and dementia. Recruitment will utilise the NHS Humber Trust Learning Disability services, social media, support forums and charities. Taking part involves completing a demographic questionnaire and attending a semi-structured interview either on-line or in person which should last approximately one hour. There is a lack of research around individuals with a diagnosis of both a learning disability and dementia, therefore findings from the current study aim to increase peoples understanding of caring for these individuals. This should help to inform the development of interventions strengthening resiliency which research has commented should have a positive impact on the both the caregivers and looked after individuals’ quality of life.
