Research summary
The COVID-19 pandemic put our local critical care services in Manchester under great demand that has not been seen before. A great amount of time and planning went into preparing for the outbreak, during which our service performed well compared to the average service in England.\n\nNow we are beyond a peak in clinical cases, we plan to critically appraise and reflect on the processes and preparations we made to better understand how successful they were and improve them for future surges in coronavirus cases or new future pandemics. This exercise will involve our existing staff in critical care completing an anonymous online questionnaire on their experience, followed by voluntary focus groups to develop a model describing the experience of staff which can then be analysed further.
