  • Data collection arrangements

Human biological samples will be collected by medically trained personnel from patients with inflammatory and non inflammatory joint disorders at the time of their elective or routine medical appointment in the hospital clinical setting. The samples will include whole blood, synovial tissue and/or synovial fluid.
Samples will be stored in GSK approved and Human Biological Sample Management compliant storage facilities at the GSK Clinical Unit Cambridge. Tissue samples may be transferred to other approved laboratories and stored in appropriate facilities.
A researcher within the NHS will conduct the consent talk. Sufficient time will be allowed for the patient to make an informed decision, given an opportunity to ask questions and sign the consent form in the company of the person taking consent, who will coutersign the document. Subjects will be told what will happen to their samples, data and personal information. Each patient will be given an information sheet to read and keep, and be given study contact details.
To be able to align results with patient disease history, some information from the medical records, such as year of birth, ethnicity, specific disease scores and medication history will be obtained in a non- identifiable manner.
