Research summary
The study explores whether there is evidence of stability across memories of perceived parental care and current attachment style in individuals experiencing recent alcohol dependence. A questionnaire will be used to gain this information from participants who attend an alcohol addiction support service. This will expand on current empirical research and give a clearer indication of the relevance and value of acknowledging both memories of perceived parental care and/or adulthood attachment styles in clinical practice with respect to clients seeking help for alcohol dependency or alcohol use disorders. The findings of this study are intended to inform clinical practice in alcohol addiction treatment services, signposting practitioners to the most salient attachment style when treating clients.
