Research summary
For this Study we wish to develop recommendations for radiotherapy comfort intervention package in conjunction with patients and therapeutic radiographers.
Previous research for our current COMFORT research in radiotherapy included two studies. Firstly, a systematic literature review identified several interventions that may improve comfort during radiotherapy, assisting patients to sustain and endure the same position over time.
Secondly, qualitative individual interviews with patients and therapeutic radiographers alluded to a range of views and experiences of patient comfort and how comfort can be best managed. Many solutions to improve comfort were suggested by participants that can be used in radiotherapy. This is crucial for the continual growth of complex radiotherapy requiring a need for comfort to ensure stability for targeted treatment. Therefore we would like to use the findings from the previous two studies to develop recommendations for radiotherapy comfort intervention package. In order to do this, we will run a Consensus Study meeting online with up to 9 patients and 3 therapeutic radiographers. We will recruit patients and Therapeutic radiographers who previously participated in the interviews, to complete the Consensus Study meeting using their own computer, mobile device or equipment we have loaned them. Then if more patients are required we will recruit from Radiotherapy at Musgrove Park Hospital, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. If more therapeutic radiographers are required we will be recruited nationally at conferences and special interest groups. The Consensus Study meeting will take 3 hours and 45 minutes.
