Research summary
Following its commencement, the continued maintenance of general anaesthesia is achieved by either gaseous anaesthesia or continuous intravenous infusion of anaesthetic drugs. The drug used almost exclusively to maintain total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA) is propofol. The aim of this research is to assess the accuracy of a prototype system for measuring real-time blood propofol blood concentration in patients anaesthesised using TIVA.
