Research summary
The Promoting Independence in Dementia app (PRIDE-app) aims to improve the independence and quality of life in people living with mild dementia. PRIDE-app is an online handbook which covers information on physical, mental, and social health. Topics include keeping healthy, decision-making, and communication. It encourages the user to set activity plans and make positive changes, both of which can help the user to live well with dementia.
In this study, we want to explore how the PRIDE-app may support the independence of people living with mild dementia and encourage them to make positive lifestyle changes which improve their quality of life. Between 60 and 100 people living with mild dementia will be recruited from up to six NHS Memory Services. They can participate individually or with a supporter. Participants will be paired with an adviser who will run through the PRIDE-app with them, help make activity plans, and promote long-term lifestyle changes, across three remote sessions.
Questionnaires will be completed by participants and supporter before using the PRIDE-app, and at 3 and 6 months after. Interviews will be conducted with up to 20 participants and supporters to further understand their experiences of the PRIDE-app. Participants will be involved in the study for a maximum of 6 months, from starting using the PRIDE-app to the final follow-up.
