Data collection arrangements
This clinical database will primarily be compiled from data already available in NHS systems. The research database will be anonymised and not contain any identifiable data. The types of data include demographic information such as age, gender and ethnicity, health data such as blood pressure and heart rate, and reports and raw data from previous investigations (e.g. CT scans and electrocardiograms). In some cases this data will be supplemented by data held by other organisations such as the Office of National Statistics or NHS Health Episode Statistics. Any personal data will be stored on password-protected computers in folders with restricted access. The research database (not containing identifiable data) will be held on encrypted hard drives/secure servers.
Research programme
The aim of this research database is to better identify and evaluate methods of measuring the severity of structural heart disease. This is achieved by observing the outcomes of individuals with a given set of characteristics, and then using that to develop models, or other simulations which will eventually help with risk-stratification and clinical decision-making.
