  • Research summary

This study is sub-project of a wider research study called Remote Assessment of Disease and Relapse for Central Nervous System Disorders (RADAR-CNS). This wider study aims to explore the use of mobile technology (e.g. wearable devices) for measuring health status across time for people with a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS), epilepsy and depression. Of paramount importance to this study and to the implementation of wearables into clinical practice is the ability to engage people in their use. The intention this sub-project is therefore to investigate factors that influence acceptance of and engagement with wearable technology. We have conducted a systematic review of the literature and focus groups with people with a diagnosis of MS, epilepsy and depression to identify potential barriers and facilitators. We now wish to quantify the relative importance of some of these factors that may drive engagement in a survey. People who have a diagnosis of MS, epilepsy or depression, living in the UK, who are over the age of 18 years and able to understand what the study is about will be eligible to take part in this survey. Each participant will be asked to provide conformation of consent and to complete a survey online via a web-link. A researcher will be available to assist with completion, if needed. This survey will ask people about their experience with technology, their health and their preference for using wearable technology in the future. The survey will take approximately 30 minutes to complete and participants will either take part in their own home or on university (King’s College London) premises.
