Research summary
Cancer is a devastating disease that affects people's lives in many ways. Many cancer patients continue to experience psychosocial long after their treatment has been completed. Such concerns have also been linked to emotional well-being as well as health outcomes, and several studies have proposed a need for these concerns to be addressed with patients in routine-healthcare.
This research aims to develop a questionnaire to be used with cancer patients who have completed treatment. The questionnaire aims to capture any psychological difficulties cancer survivors may be facing, which may require further support.
The study aims to recruit both patients within the UK as well as oncology practitioners. The present research will consist of four steps including (1) interviews and focus groups with patients and cancer healthcare professionals (2) construction and piloting of the first draft of the questionnaire, (3) the distribution of the questionnaire to cancer survivors across the UK for further statistical refinement (4)the distribution of the refined questionnaire to cancer survivors across the UK for final statistical validation.
