Research summary
We propose a study to look at patients views about on-line prescribing and provision of contraception. \nWHY?\nProviding contraception is an important public health issue. In the UK there are still high rates of unintended pregnancy. Progestogen-only pills (POP) and combined hormonal contraception (CHC) including pills, patches and vaginal rings are highly effective and safe contraceptive methods. Difficulty getting repeat supplies is cited by patients as a reason for being at risk of unintended pregnancy by those already using methods such as pills and patches. There appears to be demand for alternative ways to access contraception in addition to contraceptive clinics and general practicioners. On-line prescribing has the potential to improve access to contraception as it offers speed, privacy and convenience. Little is known about patient views.\nWHO?\nWomen attending clinics aged between 18 and 55 years old.\nWHERE?\nSexual and Reproductive Health clinics within Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust:\nCrowndale Health Centre, 57-59 Crowndale Road, London, NW1 1TN.\nHillside Primary Care Centre, 150 Hilltop Avenue, London, NW10 8RY.\nGeneral Practice Surgeries:\nSt. Luke’s Primary Care Centre, Timken Way South, Duston, Northamptonshire, NN5 6FR\nHopefully a second practice in rural Norfolk\nHOW?\nA single questionnaire completed by the patient at the time of attendance.
