Research summary
This project involves enhanced analysis of MRI scan data of children admitted to Alder Hey children's hospital with previous and new diagnosis of intracranial tumours. The standard radiology reports for these scans provide qualitative (descriptive) and in some instances specific/limited quantitative ( numerical values to the finding) information that guides clinical decision making. The purpose of this project is to analyse the scan data following pseudonymisation(replacing patient identifiable information) using sophisticated image analysis and computational tools in collaboration with Centre for Preclinical Imaging based at the University of Liverpool. Quantitative information obtained from the scans has the potential in identifying and measuring subtle findings that has the potential to help in understanding disease processes and provide useful biomarkers that can guide therapy. These subtle findings may not be evident on direct visual examination of the scans by radiologists.
