  • Research summary

Patients who have been admitted to intensive care can have persistent physical and psychological problems months and years after discharge. There is very little information on the impact of critical care on survivors of ICU within the UK context- this study aims to understand this.
In this study, we will send out two questionnaires via post, to patients 1-2 years after their intensive care discharge. These questionnaires (the ED-5 and the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI)), will take approximately 5 minutes for the patient to complete. These types of questionnaires have been used previously in the ICU population. The EQ-5 is five question questionnaire which analyses quality of life (for example mobility). The ISI looks at quality of sleep
We will send out one reminder for patients who do not respond one month after the initial invitation to participate.
Simple analysis using ranges will be undertaken by a post graduate research student. These results will help staff understand how best to support patients following ICU discharge.
