Research summary
The proposed study is a qualitative retrospective study of women who have experienced FGM and accessing maternity services. Currently, there is increased political, media and public interest in the practice, with a drive to eradicate FGM in a generation. However, there is little understanding of the cultural aspect of the practice from the perspective of the women themselves. In turn, Western views, values and beliefs are applied to a non - Western society practice.
