Research summary
Hereditary thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (hTTP) is a rare disorder that causes blood clots (thrombi) to form in small blood vessels throughout the body. These clots can cause serious medical problems if they block vessels and restrict blood flow to organs such as the brain, kidneys, and heart. Resulting complications can include neurological problems (such as personality changes, headaches, confusion, and slurred speech), fever, abnormal kidney function, abdominal pain, and heart problems.
This cross-sectional, non-interventional qualitative research study will involve telephone interviews with adult and adolescent patients (N = 37) who have (hTTP). This study will have two phases: the first phase will consist of concept elicitation interviews (n=21) and the second phase will consist of cognitive interviews (n=16).
Understanding the experience of people who live with hTTP may help improve how the patient’s experience is accounted for in clinical trials and other research about disease treatments, and may lead to interventions designed to better support patients going through the disease experience.
