Research summary
The aim of this study is to understand people's views and experiences of participating in an online, self-management programme (BEAT diabetes) which forms part of routine care. The BEAT diabetes programme is being delivered, within routine care, in GP practices within the North East Hampshire & Farnham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).
This qualitative evaluation will aim to recruit 20 people with type 2 diabetes/their carers and 10-15 members of staff delivering the programme (NHS staff and online coaches) to explore views and experiences of delivering and participating in the BEAT diabetes programme.
Individual participants will be purposively sampled so that there is representation of different ages, HbA1c levels, gender, diabetes duration and treatment, deprivation levels and ethnic minorities (people with T2D and families/carers); years in practice, diabetes expertise and professional background (staff). All interviews will be informed by topic guides and will take place by phone, unless an individual requests a face-to-face interview, at a time that’s most convenient for the participant. All interviews will be digitally recorded with consent. It is anticipated that each interview will take 1 hour to complete.
This research will develop our understanding of how the BEAT diabetes programme has been implemented and experienced; informing future, online service development in this area.
