Research summary
Scotland is the only country within the UK where early medical abortions can take place entirely within a patient's home environment between gestations of 10 and 12 weeks. In the rest of the UK this can only occur at gestations <10 weeks. We have shown that early medical abortions at home between these gestations are both safe and effective, but there is little data about patient's experiences of this procedure at home between 10+0 and 11+6 weeks.
Therefore, this study is a qualitative study that aims to understand the experiences of patients undergoing this procedure, to assess whether this is an acceptable treatment at home between these gestations. A qualitative study is one which gathers opinions from interviews as its main source of data for analysis.
