Research summary
People who suffer problems from gallstones are often recommended to have surgery to remove the gallbladder (cholecystectomy). The waiting list for this surgery is long, and not much is known about how much patients quality of life is affected by their gallstone problems while they are waiting. We would like to know more about how these patients feel about their general health and how their gallstone problems affect their quality of life. We also would like to know what medication they use to deal with their symptoms, and how they use GP and hospital services for their gallstone problem while they are on the waiting list.
We will do this using a questionnaire posted out to people on the waiting list, and by accessing patients medical records where they have given consent for us to do so.REC name
