Data collection arrangements
The QENSIU research database was created in 2021 to facilitate research with the Scottish spinal cord injured population. The database contains contact details for willing research participants (name, address, phone number, email address, date of birth), information about their spinal cord injury (injury level, ASIA score, date of injury, aetiology of injury), information about any relevant comorbidities (e.g. chronic pain, chronic respiratory disease) and the types of research the potential participant is willing to undertake (e.g. exercise interventions, pain studies). PI's of approved studies will be able to request that staff within the QENSIU perform a database search and contact any participants potentially eligible for their studies. No data will be released to these PIs or external organisations.
Research programme
This database will support engagement with the spinal cord injured community. Prior to creation of this database people with a chronic spinal cord injury who are living in the community needed to see advertisements for current research studies, or hear about them by word of mouth. Many of our outpatient population have described this as cumbersome, meaning that they are often unaware of what research is currently taking place. It also poses questions about equitable access to research. The potential benefit of this research database is to facilitate more effective research with the outpatient spinal cord injured population
