Research summary
The purpose of our study is to investigate degrees of motion, as an analog of engagement, in different therapy sessions for patients with prolonged disorders of consciousness at the Royal hospital for Neuro-disability. We aim to examine how much patients move during three different activities; dance, music and pet therapy. We will record and track bodily motion of patients exhibit during the activities, and facial tracking during pet therapy. The intent is not measure the efficacy of the treatments rather to use motion as a correlate of levels of engagement within an activity.
Findings will be disseminated and used to inform national guidelines, support clinical practice and develop further research.
