Research summary
This project is designed to address one of the key objectives of the NIHR Bristol Transplant Research Unit to engage with patients (and publics) to determine acceptability and attitude towards cellular therapies as an alternative to donor derived red cells. It comprises a small scale, qualitative research study. Outputs from the study will inform the design of the clinical trial, and the strategic plan for PPI and PPE and assist in preparing public and patient information on cultured red blood cells (cRBCs).
Objectives:
To understand diverse views of the potential clinical use of cultured red
blood cells (cRBCS) and immortalized cell lines generated from rare donors;
To explore social and ethical issues of using donor derived stem cells for manufacture of blood;
To inform the development of public and patient information on cRBCs and immortalized cell lines.REC name
