Research summary
The study aims to explore illness adjustment in adults living with Type 2 Diabetes and their partners overtime. To do this, we will be sending out postal questionnaires to individuals with Type 2 diabetes and a nominated significant other e.g. partner, relative, close friend etc. and for those completing the study, we will be posting out the same questionnaire at a later time point. In the questionnaire we will be asking participants who agree to partake in the study about how they think about diabetes (diabetes beliefs), emotional well being, relationship quality (with their significant other) and how they cope with diabetes. Our main aim is to investigate the above factors impact on an individual with type 2 diabetes' emotional adjustment to diabetes and also their blood glucose control over two points in time. This will provide some important information on the role of significant others in diabetes management and the influence of different factors on health-related outcomes overtime. These findings will contribute to the development of a couple-based intervention to improve health-related outcomes in Type 2 diabetes.
