Research summary
The Psychosis and Diabetes Study aims to integrate specialist diabetes care into routine community based mental health care. Many people with psychotic illnesses also have or acquire diabetes due to a variety of factors including genetics, increased smoking rates, side effects of medication and sedentary life style. Unfortunately there is a disparity in access/utilization of physical health care resources by those with psychotic illnesses. This study aims to address this by directly integrating specialist health care into community based mental health teams to improve outcomes for those with both diabetes and psychosis.
