Research summary
Our aim for this research programme is to gain insight into patient perceptions on their treatment and the wider psychological impact of their treatment visits for macular degeneration. We hope to investigate the issues of importance to patients around their treatment regimens and gain an understanding of the stress and impact on psychological well-being of patients caused by intravitreal injection therapy.
Our research will comprise of a quantitative and a qualitative strand and will be conducted on adult patients attending the Macular Treatment Centre (MTC) at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital (MREH). The quantitative strand is designed to be administrated on all participants of our study and includes standardized validated instruments to assess the psychological impact of treatment for wAMD, and a survey to assess patients’ opinions and concerns about the treatment and epidemiological and clinical data. The qualitative strand is designed to be administrated on a small sub-sample from the main sample pool and comprises two semi-structured interviews per patient to explore the whole experience of treatment.REC name
