Research summary
Patients with major burns often need large amounts of fluid in the first days after injury. While this treatment is lifesaving, it can also cause swelling in the arms and legs. In some cases, this swelling increases pressure inside the muscles and can lead to a serious condition called compartment syndrome, which can permanently damage muscles and nerves if not treated in time.
There is no reliable way to detect this dangerous pressure build-up early in burn patients, especially because many of these patients are sedated or unable to describe pain. This study will test whether a small medical device called the MY01 sensor can help by continuously measuring pressure inside the muscles. The MY01 sensor is inserted into the muscle using a small needle and sends pressure readings wirelessly to a tablet or phone. This allows doctors to see how pressure changes over time instead of relying only on physical signs. In this study, 20 adult patients with major burns (20% or more of the body surface) will be monitored for up to four days. The device will be placed in all four limbs. The study does not change how patients are treated; it only adds extra monitoring.
The aim is to better understand when pressure increases happen after major burns and whether continuous monitoring could help detect compartment syndrome earlier and improve patient safety.REC name
