Research summary
This is a prospective cross-sectional study to identify gene and RNA expression and genetic/molecular correlates across small (<10mm), medium (>10mm <20mm) and large (>20mm) sized colorectal adenomatous polyps.
Fresh frozen tissue will be collected from adenomas and the DNA will be extracted from multiple sites (via micro-dissection). Next generation sequencing involving whole-genome sequencing panels will be used to determine the genotypes (and expression profiles) of these adenomas.
The aim of this work is to improve the prediction of future colorectal cancer risk, following the complete excision of an adenoma. This study will determine molecular markers, which can be used for clinical risk stratification.
