Research summary
The aim of this study is to examine novel strategies for the diagnosis and management of hypertension using data from routine clinical practice. Specifically, it will aim to validate a new prediction tool for targeting out-of-office blood pressure monitoring in routine practice. This will be achieved by setting up a Prospective Register Of patients undergoing repeated OFfice and Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (PROOF-ABPM) in Primary Care, Secondary Care and at pharmacies. All patients attending clinical practice for routine ambulatory blood pressure monitoring will be eligible. Data contained within the register will include patient characteristics, repeated clinic and ambulatory blood pressure, clinical assessment data and subsequent admissions to hospital and mortality. The PROOF-ABPM will be unique in its consideration of multiple clinic blood pressure measurements in relation to ambulatory blood pressure readings taken in routine clinical practice.
