  • Research summary

    The research focus will be on reproductive and sexual health promotion programmes or activities undertaken by community based organisation and NHS in West Yorkshire. This will include providing sexually transmitted infection screenings, reproductive health screenings like smear tests, condoms and providing information and advice around reproductive and sexual health at various settings ranging from pubs, colleges, parks and park events and General practices.
    The study will seek to examine the role of community based organisation and the NHS in promoting reproductive and sexual health of young people of ages 16-25 years.
    The research study will be made up of such activities described above by collaborating with colleges, local parks, pubs, restaurants and community centres across West Yorkshire. Similarly, the clinic based reproductive and sexual health promotion programmes would take place at the premises of GPs.
    Qualitative data for the study will comprised of semi-structured interview with service providers to explore their views and experiences of the service. Qualitative data will also include review of documentary evidence. Quantitative data on the other hand will be made up of self-administered questionnaire designed for young people taking part in the reproductive and sexual health promotion programme. The aim of the questionnaires was to examine the engagement of young people with the service and also to describe their knowledge and attitudes of reproductive and sexual health.
    Data collection as described above would take place at outreach venues and General practice premises in Wakefield and Bradford in West Yorkshire. Please refer to sections 2.4.3- 2.4.8 & 3.0.0-3.1.5 in the research protocol for further details.
