  • Research summary

Asthma is one of the world's most prevalent diseases, affecting between 100 million and 150 million people, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). Asthma medication is primarily delivered using a Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI) in conjunction with a spacer device in order to improve delivery of medication; Even with the use of spacers, it is often still difficult to determine whether or not the correct dose has been taken (i.e. compliance) as the patient has no way of knowing whether all of the medication has been inhaled. SmartAir Medical Ltd has developed a unique hand held monitoring device which improves patient inhalation technique through provision of a compliance score after each device use, and data retention for analysis of long-term compliance to their prescribed medication program. This study examines perceptions of this device.
