Research summary
The impact of the relationship between clinical extent of spasticity and the intra-operatively deter-mined responses of the myotomes in the EMG measurement are unknown. However, intraoperative use of EMG measurements is the standard operating procedure in selective dorsal rhizotomy which aids decision-making of which rootlets undergo resection. It is not ethical to refuse children a selective dorsal rhizotomy without intraoperative EMG measurements because EMG is a standard intra-operative tool useful for anatomical orientation and safety. Therefore, the scope of this study is to analyse the predictive role of intra-operative EMG monitoring by investigating the relationship between clinical extent of spasticity and the intraoperative EMG responses in defined myotomes.
