Research summary
This study intends to collect information from patient assessments, patient records, patient demographics, and from the interview questionnaire for diagnosis and treatment of hypertension, and construct a database with that information from patients attending the Orthopaedic Outpatients Clinics at Abergele Hospital and Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in order to investigate the following:-
a) The prevalence of patients who have both osteoarthritis and hypertension.
b) To determine the proportion of patients with osteoarthritis showing predisposing factors of hypertension and hypertension control. These may include prescription of NSAIDs, obesity, pain control, diagnosed diabetes, mobility and exercise, and any other predisposing conditions unrelated to osteoarthritis.
c) To determine the proportion of patients who have osteoarthritis and hypertension who are receiving the correct treatment according to NICE guidelines for their conditions.Once gathered, this will allow us to assess the prevalence of hypertension in those with diagnosed osteoarthritis, and to assess whether those patients are being treated according to the NICE guidelines for this condition, allowing us to inform clinicians as to whether more needs to be done in regards to this.
