Research summary
This study will assess the feasibility of using pressure monitoring technologies for the creation of an “Individualised Pressure Ulcer Prevention Plan” using a mixed methods approach. A cohort of individuals with Spinal Cord Injury or Cauda Equina Syndrome referred to the Duke of Cornwall Spinal treatment Centre, Salisbury District Hospital will be recruited for the evaluation. It will adopt a longitudinal approach to data collection to assess patient behaviour before and after the intervention has been implemented. Quantitative information regarding the frequency, magnitude and duration of movements will be recorded using the pressure monitoring technology. Qualitative information regarding barrier and facilitators to PU prevention will be collated using a series of interviews.
In addition to patient assessment and interventions, perspectives from healthcare professionals with the direct care team (nurses, AHP's) regarding the technology will be gathered in a focus group.
