Research summary
PHE is collaborating with the Erasmus Medical Centre, Rotterdam, to review known cases of metastatic cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC). The metastatic cohort (n = 800) was identified as part of a previous study, published in 2019, and will be compared to a randomly selected non-metastatic cSCC cohort (n=1000) within the same time period, 2013-2015 (reference 1). Characteristics such as patient demographics, tumour site, thickness, diameter, differentiation, depth of invasion, perineural invasion, lymphovascular invasion and staging systems with be analysed. Primary outcome will be risk of metastasis, secondary outcome will be risk of death in metastatic cases and potential improvements to current staging systems.
Zoe Venables will be collaborating with the team in Erasmus Medical Centre to analyse the data. Analysis will be conducted in accordance with the agreed processes and permissions within NCRAS. All data will be extracted from the Cancer Analysis System. Data is collected and collated under section 251 of the National Health Service Act 2006.
Pseudonymized data will be shared with Erasmus MC. Legal officers of Erasmus MC Technology Transfer Office (TTP) will be involved in making a Data Transfer Agreement (DTA).
The development of the prediction model will be performed by researchers (T.Nijsten, M.Wakkee, L.Hollestein) of the Erasmus MC in collaboration with Zoe Venables.
A shared publication will be written of which Zoe Venables of PHE will be first author.References:
