Research summary
Whilst available risk stratifications systems can help in our prediction of complications following complex abdominal wall surgery very little data exists on the successful management of chronically infected abdominal wall defects. Most of these cases are reported in series along side clean cases and are shown to have higher complication rates. It is extremely difficult to stratify this complex and challenging group of patients in isolation. Minimal data also exists as to how the use of pre-operative imaging can help in risk stratification.
Our aim is to evaluate data and identify key risk factors for complications from our cohort of Grade 3 and 4 complex hernia patients and evaluate the use of CT imaging in the pre-operative assessment of this cohort. Using this we aim to develop a risk prediction tool using logistic regression analysis of risk factors.
