Research summary
The aim of the study is to develop a methodology to predict the development of alcohol related harm necessitating hospital admission and/or attendance.\n\n2.1 Research objectives: phase 1\nTo investigate the utility of hospital based episode data to inform modelling.\n\n2.2 Research objectives: phase 2\n\nDevelop a predictive model to:\n\nTest the sensitivity and specificity of using ED attendances or hospital admission to predict subsequent alcohol related disease and/or harms.\n2.3 Research objectives: phase 3\nb. To enable more effective targeting of early intervention strategies.\nc. Establish the potential health benefits associated with improved targeting based on ED attendance or hospital admission.\nd. Establish the potential resource savings associated with improved targeting based on ED attendance or hospital admission.\ne. Determine the potential incremental cost effectiveness associated with improved targeting based on ED attendance or hospital admission.
