  • Research summary

The Precise study is an NIHR funded research project at St George’s, University of London, in collaboration with the diagnostic company Atlas Genetics, to design and evaluate new POCTs for Chlamydia trachomatis (Ct), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (Ng), Trichomonas Vaginalis (TV), and Mycoplasma genitalium (Mg), and will include a POCT for strain typing of Ng and Mg to show antimicrobial resistant (AMR) types of infections.

The Precise social science programme is focused on providing patient opinion on the best design(s) for the POCTs under development in this study. In addition, we aim to identify patients’ perception of the impact of point-of-care tests for bacterial sexually transmitted infections, including antimicrobial resistance.

The Precise social science programme includes a qualitative research study comprised of two sets of qualitative in-depth interviews (to commence in year 1 and year 3 respectively) and a patient and public involvement programme. This application focuses on the qualitative research study.
