  • Research summary

The researchers would like to know more about early arthritis with the aim of identifying it at the earliest time point. This is important as there are still many things that are not known about this, and finding out more could improve how patients are treated in future. Therefore, they have proposed this study which will involve recruitment of patients referred to the Rheumatology out-patient departments at and/or age and sex- matched controls as needed. Participant with RA will be recruited on to the main study, whereby the researchers will collect clinical information about them and the participants will complete questionnaires. The participants with RA could also be approached to take part in one of the following sub-studies; biosample, in which blood and urine samples would be collected; synovial, whereby synovial fluid and biopsy studies will be collected. The research is to be funded by the Manchester Biomedical Research Centre. The Control Group Study will also aim to collect this information, for comparison. The study will recruit in specialist NHS centres; recruitment will start in Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and other centres may be involved in future.
