Research summary
Survival from gynaecological cancer, the second most common female cancer type, is poorer in the UK than many
other countries. To help GPs diagnose gynaecological cancers more quickly, guidelines have been developed which
recommend internal vaginal examination before referral, despite limited evidence to support this.
This project will collect data from primary care records of women diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer: pre-referral pelvic examination; demographic data; symptoms at presentation; route to diagnosis and link it to the NHS Grampian Cancer Care Pathway database to determine what factors, if any, affect the cancer stage at diagnosis.REC name
