Research summary
Title: Experiences of the 27-30 month Child Health Surveillance Programme. There is a growing body of evidence that there are a significant number of children entering early education establishments with unmet need having not reached their developmental milestones and who had previously been allocated a Health Plan Indicator of core. This is the coding introduced to identify what level of need/support a child or family may require following a needs assessment by a Health Visitor and assigned by the time the child was four months old. Core is where the child has no identified additional need and will access universal service. Additional is where a child is identified as requiring additional support for health, developmental, social, environmental reasons.
This study aims to understand in what ways the newly introduced 27-30 month Child Health Surveillance and Wellbeing review is supporting the earlier identification of children with developmental concerns who had previously been Core and ascertain if an appropriate intervention has been explored which may support positive outcomes for the child? It is seeking to exlore the experiences of the professional and the parent/carer of the child whose Health Plan Indicator changed from Core to Additional through this review by conducting semi structured interviews which will last no longer than 1 hour.
The interviews will be conducted at a time and place sutiable to the participants which may be in NHS premises, at their home or at a neutral venue they are happy with.
