  • Research summary

After experiencing a brain injury, some people report experiencing some positive changes. This is called post-traumatic growth, but we are not certain how or why it occurs. This project aims to explore this, so that we can find ways to increase the likelihood that people may experience positive changes after brain injury.
Potential participants will be identified from records of admissions to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The records of these potential participants will then be screened by the Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist (traumatic brain injury) and Clinical Lead for Stroke in Neuropsychology (stroke), based on inclusion/exclusion criteria.
Potential participants meeting all the required criteria will be posted a pack containing information about the project, a consent form, a questionnaire booklet, contact details for support sources and a pre-paid and addressed envelope.
After reading the information about the project, potential participants who wish to take part will complete the consent form (by reading each item and signing their initials to indicate consent) and the questionnaires. The 14 page questionnaire booklet comprises 11 questionnaires. The front page of the booklet provides instructions on how to complete the questionnaires. To complete the questionnaires participants need to read each question and tick the response option which best fits their experience. This is expected to take approximately 30 minutes. Participants will be asked to return completed consent forms and questionnaire booklets in the provided envelope within 4 weeks of receipt.
The data will be analysed and the outcomes of the study will be available at https://www.wiki.ed.ac.uk/x/JWy_F .
