Research summary
In recent years, a new index named Post systolic index (PSI) which is based on echocardiographic images analysis has been proposed to indirectly and non-invasively assess the presence of a coronary blockage. Patients attending Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic usually undergo an interview with the cardiac nurse specialist (to obtain the patient clinical history), a baseline ECG (look for any evidence of abnormality), an echocardiography (which provides information on cardiac function) and subsequently a coronary angiogram (to confirm or refute the presence of significant coronary artery narrowing). The study aims to analyze additional images (collected during the echocardiographic scan) on participants with stable angina before undergoing an elective coronary angiogram. The result of the coronary angiogram will be compared to the findings of the PSI analysis.
