  • Research summary

Gestational diabetes affects 2-18% of pregnancies and causes stillbirth, pre-term delivery, traumatic delivery, neonatal hypoglycaemia and impacts on the long-term health of mother and baby. Women affected by gestational diabetes have a 40% likelihood of recurrent gestational diabetes in future pregnancies and a 50% risk of type-2 diabetes in the 10 years after delivery.

The study will test the feasibility of providing DNA-based dietary advice and effect on blood sugar metabolism and measures of general health over the study period. Women who have had gestational diabetes will be recruited after they have delivered their baby. They will be randomised to receiving standard dietary advice or DNA-based dietary advice via the DNA-Nudge wearable device and app.
