Research summary
The aim of the proposed research is to examine the use of music therapy in treating patients with a borderline personality disorder.
The first goal is to validate 10 ideal-typical relationship patterns which were part of a doctoral research survey (Strehlow 2011). The 10 interaction patterns have been shown to be relevant in the use of music therapy to treat borderline personality disorder inpatients. The data was gathered in an acute psychiatric hopsital in Hamburg Germany. The aim for this research is to compare the data gathered in Germany with the data to be gathered in Northern Ireland.
The second goal is to compare interaction patterns in single design in Germany with a group setting taken in Nothern Ireland.
The methodological basis is 'forming types by understanding’ based on Max Weber's definition of the 'ideal type'. This method provides a systematic and comprehensible process including quality criteria. The abstract results are established through contrasting cases.
The two month research will allow data to be collected (music therapy exclusively with Borderline Personality Disorder patients in an out-patient setting) and the first analysis to be made.REC name
